Aluysius Sulistianta

Here we believe it’s all about the company we keep whether it’s our furry friends facing extinction or the irrational artists we like to keep company with.

PRODUCTION MANAGER – IN HOUSE ARTIST

Sulis is quietly spirited with entrepreneurial zeal. A natural talent in the arts had him winning art competitions in his early years. After graduation, Sulis was drawn to the seminary but soon found himself preoccupied with drawing the church newsletter, and his decision was made, watercolour was his religion.

A furniture designer, published poet and painter, Sulis has had an impressive career as a designer at Warisan, Bali’s most prestigious furniture company, and as a production manager at San Juan Ventures. Sulis’s was the finalist of the IFDA 2017 (Indonesian Furniture Design Award).

Integral to the design team Sulis and MJ collaborate on his watercolours to choose our palates. He then works with our master artists to achieve our final designs. An active member of the Bali art scene and the perpetual winner of the office smart feather Sulis is as much a part of this company as he is the company.

Tatang B.Sp

Tatang%2BB.Sp.jpg

Tatang B.Sp needs little introduction in the art world as a much-lauded master painter of international acclaim. Like Sulis, Tatang won many competitions in school for his artworks, and the two met in their poetry group in Bali.

Originally from Tegal, Central Java, Tatang trained to be a veterinarian at Udayana University but never practised. He left university and has been an artist of social and political criticism ever since. As one of Indonesia’s foremost artists, he represents Mary Justice Designs in the wider world of master painters.

Tatang B.Sp speaks our language and has firm beliefs in Eastern spiritualism versus Western rationalism. When working late one night in our studio and enjoying a convivial conversation, Tatang came up with a new word for our entire team as “transrational” a word that is now proudly displayed on our studio whiteboard, and we have signed by Tatang B.Sp.

His work “Borderless” was chosen for the Olympic Fine Arts 2008 Beijing, China, and is now in the permanent collection in Switzerland at the Lausanne Olympics Museum. It is Tatang’s his most recent work “Song of The Silent Forest” that really speaks to the essence of our designs (see below).

Painting Tatang B.Sp

Song Of The Silent Forest

His work is shown on the left.

SONG OF THE SILENT FOREST (as viewed by MJ in November at the Arma Museum, Ubud) represents Anthropomorphism (humankind) vs Biomorphisim (natural world) taken to it’s extreme. It’s a celebration in a symphony of the songs of the forest, that also comes with an underlying message.

Tatang B.Sp’s explanation of the masterpiece “Song of The Silent Forest” is that “humans are just a part of the universe. There is more out to the universe than we know, and mankind’s thinking needs to be more in tune with the sympathetic orchestra and symphony that is nature so we don’t lose our harmony. This is what my art speaks about.”
